Job description

Job summary

We are looking for an organised self-starter to provide efficient administration and secretarial duties within our Respiratory Department at Basildon Hospital.

If you're a people person, this role could be the right fit for you as you'll be the main contact for our Respiratory patients.

You'll also provide administration support and liaise with departments across the Trust, general practitioners, patients, relatives, and visitors, resolving queries as appropriate.

So if you are sociable, dynamic, and pride yourself on your communication skills, we'd like to hear from you today.

Main duties of the job
  1. Your role will involve coordinating, monitoring, and initiating appropriate changes within administrative processes along the patient pathway to ensure the patient's journey is managed efficiently, smoothly, and in accordance with targets and agreed timescales, utilizing computerised tracking systems to locate case notes and investigation results.
  2. You will liaise with teams outside of the speciality, e.g., GPs, to ensure a seamless patient journey and monitor work lists for 'Choose and Book' to oversee Consultant workflow, escalating to Operational Managers if necessary.
  3. As a Patient Pathway Co-Ordinator, you will navigate patients through their care pathway, from referral to treatment, using hospital IT systems to find information on the patient pathway, including PAS systems, endoscopy systems, medical records, histology reporting systems, etc.
  4. Your general administrative duties will include courteously and efficiently receiving telephone inquiries from patients, carers, and external agencies regarding hospital admissions, processing incoming correspondence (paper and electronic), ensuring it reaches the appropriate department with deadlines, and maintaining accurate manual and electronic filing systems to ensure the accuracy of patient case notes.
