Job summary

NHS Gateshead Pathology IT Team is seeking an IT Technician to deliver end-user support for pathology systems and to be the first point of contact for system users. You will need initiative, a proactive approach, and flexibility to meet service demands.

Based in Gateshead, the role supports the Pathology IT service, liaising with suppliers and digital colleagues to ensure rapid incident resolution and smooth operation of laboratory information systems.

Qualifications

• Educated to NVQ Level III or equivalent, preferably degree level or equivalent experience in IT
• Substantial experience of end-user first level support
• Strong customer service skills with a broad range of users
• Knowledge of Service Desk software and call transfer processes
• Technical knowledge of IT hardware, operating systems and end-user productivity tools
• Familiarity with NHS pathology applications like LIMS and data managers
• Willingness to develop skills in desktop technology and ITIL/ Service Desk standards

Responsibilities

• Manning the Pathology IT Service Desk and acting as first point of contact
• Ensure calls are answered within Trust standards
• Provide first level end-user support and escalate when needed
• Communicate clearly with users and support staff
• Collaborate with digital teams to deliver efficient service
• Support the laboratory information system (LIMS) and related applications
• Manage installation workloads with the IT department
