Cover People are recruiting a Pastoral Support Assistant for a specialist secondary school in Bury, focusing on SEMH needs and practical, vocational learning. You will build trust with pupils, provide emotional support and help deliver targeted interventions throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs.
• Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, care or a similar setting.
• Calm, resilient and consistent when dealing with challenging situations.
• Confident building strong relationships with secondary-aged pupils.
• Positive, proactive and willing to get involved.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people with SEMH needs.
• Provide pastoral and emotional support throughout the school day.
• Support small groups and individual pupils with engagement and behaviour.
• Deliver or support targeted interventions and enrichment activities.
• Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage progress and participation.
• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, independence and life skills.
• Support a practical, vocational approach to learning.
• Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to meet individual needs.
