Job summary

Sandwell Academy in West Bromwich is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Manager to support students aged 11-19 and work closely with Heads of Year and senior leaders, ensuring safeguarding and accurate record-keeping.

You will also communicate with parents and prepare records and correspondence, contributing to a calm, safe school culture and strong pupil outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with young people aged 11-19.
  • Proven track record of handling behavioural and SEMH issues.
  • Experience in a secondary school setting.
  • Strong safeguarding and confidentiality awareness.

Responsibilities

Position Description

Pastoral Manager

Working as part of the Pastoral team, you will work directly with the Heads of Year and Senior Leaders regarding all pastoral matters, complying with the Academy policies and procedures relating to child protection and the safeguarding of children. You will also communicate with parents and produce appropriate records and correspondence.

Experience
  • Experience of working with young people aged 11-19
  • Proven track record of successfully working with young people with behavioural and SEMH issues
  • Experience of working in a secondary school setting
Skills / Abilities / Knowledge
  • An ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and multi‑agencies
  • An understanding of how to de‑escalate challenging behaviours
  • An ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Good organisation, time management, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the main aspects of the organisation of secondary schools
  • Knowledge of the principles involved in giving advice and guidance to young people including the place of confidentiality and sharing information
  • The ability to liaise with and gain the confidence of all Academy staff
  • A clear understanding of the factors which lead to educational disaffection in young people
  • Knowledge and understanding of strategies to remove barriers to learning in young people
  • Knowledge of the range of additional support/agencies available for students
  • Good ICT skills (e.g. use of Class Charts)
  • The ability to find creative and imaginative solutions to problems

Hours: Mon-Thu 8.00am - 5.00pm, Fri 8.00am - 3.30pm, (37.5 hours per week) term time only plus training days.
