Are you a professional seeking a role where you can directly impact the wellbeing, engagement, and outcomes for students? Perhaps you're considering a career focused on student welfare and want to use your skills to support young people with their personal development?

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Leader to join our inclusive and forward-thinking team at Alder Community High School. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about promoting student wellbeing, improving behaviour and attendance, and supporting students and families to overcome barriers to learning.

You'll thrive in a collaborative, student-centred environment where your work will directly impact the lives of young people. This is a key role in leading pastoral care, working closely with students, families, staff, and external agencies to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Alder is a rewarding place to be. We have built a culture where staff feel valued and supported. We recognise the benefits of staff working in a productive, healthy and flourishing workplace, and we work hard to ensure the wellbeing of everyone. Our core values of Altruism, Leadership, Excellence, Diversity and Resilience are at the heart of everything we do - We Are ALDER!

We are a community, and we want all students to thrive in a happy, safe, supportive, yet challenging learning environment. Our vision is to be outstanding in all we do. This includes students pursuing academic success and developing a set of skills which will prepare them for life beyond school. We have an ambitious academic curriculum for all students with hard work expected as standard.

Being part of the Alder team, you will receive:

  • The opportunity to work with honest, aspirational students brimming with potential.
  • High levels of support and challenge to maximise performance.
  • An extensive package of CPD.
  • A stimulating and friendly working environment.
  • Access to a wide range of wellbeing services through the School Wellbeing Service app.
  • Staff access to fitness suite before and after school.
  • Streamlined communications to reduce the use of email.
  • Breakfast and lunch provided on INSET days.
  • Supportive Managing Attendance policy and approach to planned absences.
  • The use of Class Charts and Provision Map to support and reduce workload.
  • Local government pension scheme.
  • Cycle to work scheme.

If you share our values, have the vision and drive for excellence and want to be part of an enthusiastic and dedicated team, committed to ensuring that students fulfil their potential, then we look forward to hearing from you.

The successful candidate will need to have excellent communication skills, along with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and young people. Your enthusiasm and proactive, 'can do' attitude will be amongst your strengths. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

This is a permanent appointment which is subject to a 6-month probationary period. The normal hours of work are 36 hours per week. The position is term time only (including INSET days) plus 5 additional days. The additional days will be worked flexibly to cover events outside of the normal school day or during the school holidays. Additional holidays cannot be taken during term time. Flexible working would be considered, and could be discussed at interview.

Safeguarding is central to everything we do

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Appointment is subject to satisfactory enhanced status checks from the Disclosure and Barring Service. We are an inclusive school and promote equal opportunities.
