Job summary

Coal Clough Academy in Burnley is seeking staff to promote excellent attendance, ensure pupil safety, and provide targeted pastoral support. The role combines attendance duties with direct work with pupils who may be vulnerable and face barriers to learning.

You will engage with families, support safeguarding, and work within the Education Partnership Trust framework to help pupils access services and achieve positive outcomes.

Qualifications

• Support pupils to overcome barriers to learning and promote inclusion.
• Provide day-to-day pastoral support to students experiencing difficulties.
• Work with the team to respond to challenging behaviour.
• Provide information and structured interventions to enable positive choices.
• Liaise with staff, parents and outside agencies to assist students.

Responsibilities

• Encourage parental engagement through 1:1 meetings and small group sessions.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers.
• Support home visits in line with safeguarding protocols.
• Identify patterns of concern and escalate to Attendance Officer, DSL, or pastoral team.
• Identify root causes of absence and barriers to education.
• Develop strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Develop Early Help Assessments and support access to services for families.
• Encourage and reward good attendance through initiatives, assemblies and mentoring.
• Act as a key contact for pupils with welfare or safeguarding concerns.
• Report concerns promptly following safeguarding policies and procedures.
