Smile Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Telford to recruit a proactive and reliable Pastoral Assistant for an immediate start.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. It's an excellent role for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping to create a safe, positive and well-managed school environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people in school, youth work, mentoring, coaching or similar.
• Calm, confident and resilient when supporting students with behavioural or pastoral needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Proactive, reliable and a team player.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during break and lunchtime, promoting positive behaviour and ensuring a safe environment.
• Respond to on-call requests during lessons, supporting staff with student behaviour and welfare.
• Help students reintegrate after removals from lessons and reflect on behaviour.
• Build positive relationships with students as a trusted pastoral team member.
• Support teachers and pastoral staff in maintaining a calm, purposeful learning environment.
• Promote high expectations around behaviour, attendance and student engagement.

As a Pastoral Assistant, you'll play a key role in supporting the pastoral team, promoting positive behaviour and ensuring students remain engaged throughout the school day.

The RoleAs a Pastoral Assistant, you will:

• Supervise students during break and lunchtime, promoting positive behaviour and ensuring a safe environment.
• Respond to on-call requests during lessons, supporting staff with student behaviour and welfare.
• Work with students who have been removed from lessons, helping them reflect on their behaviour and successfully reintegrate into class.
• Build positive relationships with students, becoming a trusted and approachable member of the pastoral team.
• Support teachers and pastoral staff in maintaining a calm and purposeful learning environment.
• Promote high expectations around behaviour, attendance and student engagement throughout the school day.

What We’re Looking For

• Has experience working with young people in a school, youth work, mentoring, coaching or a similar setting.
• Is calm, confident and resilient when supporting students with behavioural or pastoral needs.
• Can build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Is proactive, reliable and enjoys working as part of a supportive team.

This role would particularly suit candidates with backgrounds in education, pastoral support, youth work, sports coaching, behaviour support, teaching assistance or mentoring.
