Job summary

Wigan Council is seeking a Passenger Assistant to support children and young people with SEND during home-to-school transport. The role is term-time, split-shift with morning and afternoon journeys by taxi from home or a pre-arranged pickup point within the borough.

You will help ensure the safety, comfort and wellbeing of passengers throughout transit, with mileage paid when travel is arranged or routes are far from home.

• The transport is arranged within the Wigan Borough.
• Mileage paid if route is far or if transport is arranged by us.

Responsibilities

• Support children and young people with SEND during transit.
• Ensure safety, comfort and wellbeing of passengers during journeys.
• Operate a split shift with morning and afternoon pick-ups and drop-offs (approx. 7:30–10:00 and 14:30–16:00).

Fox Morris Group are working to recruit a Passenger Assistant

As a term time Home to School Passenger Assistant, you will support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) as they travel to schools and colleges inside and outside the borough.

The role is split-shift, with a taxi collecting you from home or a set pick-up point for morning and afternoon journeys.

As part of this statutory service, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, comfort and wellbeing of all passengers during transit.

Skills and Experience

• The transport arranged for children will pick you up from home or a pre-arranged pick-up point within the boundary of Wigan Borough.
• If you are on a route that is close by we would expect you to get to an agreed pick-up point. If there is a need for them to drive, we would pay mileage.
• If the person did not drive and we have arranged a route far away, we can sort transport.
• Hours are school pick up and school drop off 7:30-10 14:30-16:00 or around these hours.
