Job summary

Essential Employment is recruiting a Home to School Passenger Assistant in Wigan. The role is term-time and part-time, supporting children and young people with SEND during journeys to and from school, ensuring safety, comfort and wellbeing.

The position is split-shift with morning and afternoon pickups; mileage may be payable where required. Pre-employment checks apply; due to volume, not all CVs will be contacted.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND or in a school transport setting.
• Good awareness of child safety and safeguarding requirements.
• Clear communication with colleagues, parents and school staff.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils to stay calm, comfortable and ready to learn on journeys.

As a term timeHome to School Passenger Assistant, you will support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) as they travel to schools and colleges inside and outside the borough. The role is split‑shift, with a taxi collecting you from home or a set pick‑up point for morning and afternoon journeys.

As part of thisstatutory service, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, comfort and wellbeing of all passengers during transit. Your support will help children and young people arrive at school or college calm, settled and ready to learn

The transport arranged for children will pick you up from home or a pre‑arranged pick up point within the boundary of Wigan Borough. If you are on a route that is close by we would expect you to get to an agreed pick up point. If there is a need for them to drive, we would pay mileage. If the person did not drive and we have arranged a route far away we can sort transport.

Hours are school pick up and school drop off 7:30-10 14:30-16:00 or around these hours.

This is a Part Time role on a temporary contract basis.
