gunnercooke is offering a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover role as part of the Partner Services team in Manchester. This role focuses on providing exceptional administrative support, managing relationships with partners, and overseeing onboarding and induction processes.
Ideal candidates are organized, have strong communication skills, and a keen client-service mindset. This position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced and dynamic environment while supporting the core functions of the firm.
This is a 12-month fixed term maternity cover role at the heart of the Partner Services team.
Partner Services is the team that keeps gunnercooke’s partners supported, connected and well looked after. It is the central point of contact for customer success and relationship management across the firm. This role is the engine behind that team; keeping the inbox moving, the calls answered, the data clean, the rewards programme running, the onboarding process supported when cover is needed, and the senior team free to focus on the work only they can do.
The right person will be quick on their feet, warm with people, and unphased by an inbox that can fill up faster than it empties at peak times. The ideal candidate will be resilient, commercially driven, and champion our culture and values: Compassionomics, Laser‑like Focus, Humour, and being Boundaryless.
Partner Services is the team Partners turn to when they need help, an answer, an introduction, or someone who will just sort it. The work is fast‑moving and people‑led; this role is the engine that keeps it running.
Supporting the team that answers the firm’s Partners, by phone, by email, in person.
Every working day, somewhere between 40 and 70 emails land in the Partner Services inbox, and the phone rings throughout. Behind those messages are Partners chasing answers, new enquiries seeking legal support, transactions trying to find the right contact, and the occasional sales pitch to politely deflect. The post‑holder supports the Partner Services Managers in keeping the inbox moving; triaging where possible, replying where they can, and escalating where not.
Matching Partners with the right people, inside and outside the firm.
Much of what makes gunnercooke work is the network. Partners need other Partners when their clients need expertise outside their own, and they rely on a strong bank of Partner Assistants when they need additional capacity on their own matters. This part of the role is about maintaining PA relationships and capacities, supporting Partner‑to‑Partner introductions with resource planning and connection making where possible, and helping new German Partners settle by finding them a UK buddy.
The systems, the data, and the admin that keeps the team moving.
Behind every smooth Partner experience is a quietly well‑run back office. This is where that work lives; keeping HR data current, processing role changes (such as Legal Counsel to Partner, or Employed Associate to Self‑Employed), supporting the HR audit process, and giving the Partner Services Managers a reliable second pair of hands‑on ad‑hoc admin and audit tasks when needed.
Holiday cover, additional capacity, and support to the Onboarding Assistant.
The post‑holder provides holiday cover and additional capacity for the firm’s onboarding function. When the Onboarding Assistant is out or capacity is tight, they step in to keep the joiner journey running; covering gcTrust onboarding, Legal and Operating Partner onboarding, and the day‑to‑day admin that sits behind both. Buddy management sits with the post‑holder, as does oversight of the onboarding inbox.
On the induction side, the role is responsible for creating induction plans and schedules, coordinating sessions across IT, Compliance, Finance and Office Services, and monitoring the day‑of processes that ensure new joiners have what they need from their first day. On the leaver side, the role handles the IT and administrative duties relating to people exiting the business; access revocation, system removals and HR folder updates.
We don’t require formal qualifications. Practical experience in service or office environments is valued more highly than academic background.
