Job summary

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a part-time Staff Nurse for Ward 10, a 22-bed Trauma and Orthopaedic unit. The role requires rotating between day and night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays as required.

Candidates should be compassionate, motivated and able to communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care within a busy acute setting.

Qualifications

• Evidence of professional development.
• Suitable for newly qualified or experienced staff nurse.
• Experience of maintaining accurate records.
• Relevant clinical knowledge and experience.
• Act as a practice supervisor.
• Willing to undertake Practice Assessor Training.
• Relevant degree or willing to work towards degree.
• Willingness to undertake relevant modules/courses.
• NHS experience.
• Awareness of Health Policies and the changing NHS environment.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for a named caseload.
• Assist in creating a therapeutic environment meeting patient, relative and carer needs.
• Adhere to Wirral Hospital objectives, policies, protocols and guidelines.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary team members.
• Promote a critical, analytical approach to care and change implementation.
• Participate in audits.
• Maintain skills and knowledge with current clinical issues.
• Act as shift coordinator in absence of Ward/Dept Manager.
• Preceptor, Practice Assessor/Supervisor and/or NVQ assessor to junior staff/students.
• Supervise and lead a team of junior staff.
• Undertake staff appraisals.
• Contribute to meeting Ward/Department objectives.
• Adhere to national, local and professional policies.
• Ensure effective communication with patients, families, peers.
