Job summary

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport. The role involves holistic care, enabling rehabilitation for patients with spinal cord injuries, and developing skills in respiratory support and interventions as part of a multi-professional team.

The post operates on an 11.5-hour rotating shift pattern across days and nights, seven days a week, with flexible options and potential shorter shifts to balance roster

Qualifications

• Essential: 1st Level Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Proven ability to work in a clinical environment and deliver patient care.
• Strong communication and patient advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides and receives complex information with patients and families, including care plans.
• Communicates compassionately and empathetically, using clear explanations.
• Maintains safe custody of drugs and adheres to checking, witnessing and administration procedures.
• Conducts risk assessments and implements measures to reduce risk.
• Participates in MDT decisions and acts as patient advocate within the pathway.
• Ensures privacy, dignity and safety of individuals at all times.
• Supports training and development of junior staff and students.
• Contributes to data collection for audit and research purposes.
