Job summary

Leigh-Upon-Mendip Primary School is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to work 18 hours per week (Mon, Tue, Wed & Fri, 8:30 am – 1:00 pm). The role supports pupils under guidance of teaching staff, helping them access the curriculum and develop independence inside and outside the classroom.

The post is a fixed-term contract until August 2027, Grade 3 SCP 5–7, with focus on literacy and numeracy interventions and contributing to a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Attend to pupils’ personal, social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare needs.
• Supervise and support pupils to ensure their safety and active access to learning.
• Help develop and implement student profiles, target action plans, and tailored learning strategies.
• Establish constructive relationships with pupils, promoting inclusion, self-esteem and independence.
• Provide constructive feedback to pupils on their progress and offer pastoral support.
• Create and maintain an orderly, supportive and engaging learning environment.
• Assist with lesson planning and the display of pupils’ work.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide detailed feedback to teachers.
• Promote positive behaviour in line with school policies and handle conflicts promptly.
• Assist with administering tests, marking and administrative tasks.
• Deliver 1:1 and small group intervention programmes in literacy and numeracy.
• Support pupils in using ICT safely and effectively to enhance learning.
• Prepare, maintain and manage learning resources and equipment required for lessons.
