Job summary

The Manchester Grammar School is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to support and supervise students in the school library, assist with cataloguing and stock processing, and work with Accessit library software. The role requires strong communication, organisation, and a friendly, proactive approach.

You will liaise with departmental staff and may deputise for the Senior Librarian as needed, contributing to a safe and welcoming reading environment for pupils aged 7 to 18.

Qualifications

Experience of working in a library and familiarity of using web-based resources.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students and staff.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy school library environment.
Knowledge of cataloguing and classification systems.

Responsibilities

To support and supervise students using the library facilities and resources in study sessions, reading for pleasure sessions and at other times during the School day.
To conduct general house-keeping duties such as issuing and returning items, ordering, cataloguing and processing new stock, using Accessit - the library management system.
To liaise with Departmental staff.
To deputise for the Senior Librarian in their absence.
