Job summary

Weymouth Bay Medical Practice in Weymouth is seeking a part-time Practice Nurse to deliver nursing care for a patient list of 26,500 across three surgeries. The role focuses on long‑term condition monitoring, health promotion and screening, as well as vaccinations, wound care and cervical cytology.

The post offers flexible hours (10–25 per week) and a supportive team environment with 22 GP partners and ongoing professional development opportunities; registration with the NMC and a professional

Qualifications

• Membership of a professional body
• Registered adult nurse with NMC
• Experience in nursing generally
• Knowledge of long-term conditions and health promotion
• Awareness of clinical governance in primary care
• Ability to manage change and support patients to adopt healthier lifestyles
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care to the practice population autonomously and as part of a team
• Monitor and manage long-term conditions including QOF reviews
• Deliver health promotion, prevention and screening activities
• Give injections and vaccinations including travel vaccines and manage immunisation programmes
• Provide wound care, dressings, sutures and clip removal, Doppler and bandaging
• Run a cervical cytology sampling programme and audit at least 20 smears per year
• Respond to complex or urgent situations including seizures and cardiac events
• Maintain patient records on SystmOne with Read codes
• Liaise with local support services and make referrals as needed
• Assist with minor surgery, venepuncture and ECGs
• Prescribe medicines if qualified to do so
• Mentor junior staff and students and assist with ordering supplies
