Job summary

Disability North is seeking two Personal Assistants to support a 13-year-old wheelchair user in Westerhope, Newcastle Upon Tyne. The role involves assisting with daily activities, transportation, and personal care during school holidays with some evenings and weekends.

A positive, friendly attitude and building trust with the family are essential. Responsibilities include transporting to activities, ensuring safety, and providing toileting and feeding support via gastrostomy.

Responsibilities

• Take him to agreed activities using public transport or WAV if licensed.
• Leave and return home at agreed times; be contactable by phone.
• Tend to personal needs; help safety and independence.
• Provide updates to mum when out without her.
• Offer emotional support; manage distress.
• Give feeds via gastrostomy as required.
• Change clothes and assist with toileting safely.
• Support life skills; use public transport and make purchases.
• Encourage new activities while respecting boundaries.
• Support during seizures and record length/details.
