Job summary

Northern is seeking a People Advisor (Part Time) in Manchester to support managers with Employee Relations and related people processes. The role is 0.8 FTE, 30 hours per week, with a salary in the £39k–£40k range.

You'll provide practical guidance, help managers make fair decisions, and collaborate with the broader People team to improve employee experience across the organisation. Join a busy, supportive environment where no two days are the same and where you can develop your career through

Qualifications

• Experience in a generalist HR or People Advisory role.
• Good understanding of employment law and employee relations.
• Experience supporting managers in unionised or operational environments.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact for managers seeking advice on Employee Relations matters.
• Support managers with investigations, hearings and absence management.
• Coach managers to manage people fairly and consistently.
• Monitor case progress to ensure actions and timescales are met.
• Escalate complex cases to Senior People Advisors as needed.
• Build strong relationships with managers, Trade Union reps and colleagues across the People team.
• Use data to identify trends and support improvements.
• Keep up to date with employment law and share best practices.
