Job summary

Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care in the United Kingdom is seeking an HCA to provide hands-on personal and clinical care to patients in their own homes. You’ll work mainly in the community, often alone, with nursing team guidance and a clear developmental path after completing the RGP HCA competency workbook.

Qualifications

• Care Certificate, or a health and social care qualification at level 2 or above.
• Level 3 health and social care qualification, or completion of the RGP HCA competency workbook within twelve months with our support.
• Experience of caring for people, paid or unpaid.
• Communicates clearly and kindly with patients, families and colleagues.
• Understands safeguarding, dignity and confidentiality.
• Basic IT skills and willingness to use the electronic patient record after training.
• Can show how they work in line with RGP's values: compassionate, supportive, inclusive and collaborative.
• Experience of palliative or end of life care; experience of clinical observations or phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care with dignity: washing, toileting, mouth and skin care, nutrition and hydration, comfort at the end of life.
• Work to each patient's care plan; notice and report changes in condition or family need promptly to the registered professional.
• Once signed off in the workbook, carry out delegated clinical duties: observations (blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose), urinalysis, IPOS reviews, simple wound dressings, syringe driver safety checks.
• Record the care you give accurately and promptly in the electronic patient record.
• Work under the direction of a registered professional; act on your own initiative within delegated tasks, with supervision accessible including when working alone in patients' homes, with phone support always available.
