Job summary

Extendicare is recruiting a part-time Recreation Aide to help plan, organize, and run meaningful activities for residents. You will work with the Recreation Manager and other staff to deliver engaging programs and support daily activities, meals, and outings.

Ideal candidates have a college diploma related to recreation, strong communication skills, and experience with seniors. A Vulnerable Sector Check is required or willing to obtain one.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Previous experience working with seniors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
• Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing meaningful programs for residents with the Recreation Manager.
• Maintain department records including assessments and participation charts.
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers, and staff.
• Attend in-service education to stay informed on elderly care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan programs around resident interests.
• Assist with scheduled outings and with daily activities.
• Support meal service as required.
• Uphold Extendicare's Code of Conduct and core values.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
