Job summary

Novus, the prison education provider, invites applications for a Functional Skills Maths Teacher at HMP Hewell near Redditch. This permanent, part-time role (12 hours per week) focuses on delivering engaging maths lessons in a prison education setting to help learners build confidence and practical numeracy skills.

The successful candidate will hold a teaching qualification and a maths specialist qualification (Desirable), be able to adapt to learners at different levels, and commit to

Qualifications

• Hold a teaching qualification and a relevant subject specialist qualification - or commit to obtain one outstanding qualification within 12 months.
• Hold a recognised maths subject specialist qualification (Desirable).
• Bring a strong understanding of Functional Skills Maths teaching approaches, with the ability to adapt learning to support learners at different levels of confidence, ability and prior educational experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality Functional Skills Maths teaching sessions which are accessible, engaging and tailored to learners' numeracy needs and abilities.
• Support learners to develop practical maths skills, including number, measure, shape, data handling and problem-solving, with a focus on real-life and workplace contexts.
• Assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records in line with quality requirements.
• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that motivates learners and supports achievement.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to promote progression, employability and positive learner outcomes.
• Use initial assessment and ongoing feedback to identify learners' strengths, address barriers to learning and support individual progress.
