Job summary

Qualifications

• ACCA/CIMA qualification or studying is preferred.
• AAT Level 4 is a minimum requirement.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts and provide analysis to Directors and Senior Management Group.
• Own budgeting process and provide commentary on performance and variances.
• Lead and support accounts team, improve processes and workload allocation.
• Prepare payroll information for external payroll provider and oversee pensions, expenses, company cards, and admin.
• Collaborate with operations on stock valuation, variances and obsolete stock.
• Assist in implementing improved finance and budgeting tools.
• Provide HR support to managers and assist with recruitment, onboarding, attendance and holidays.

EA First is recruiting a Part Time Finance Manager in Birmingham for an established and successful SME. This newly created position offers considerably more scope than a traditional part-time finance role - you will report directly to the Managing Director, join the Senior Management Group and have the opportunity to shape how finance supports the wider business.

Our client is an established UK SME based in Birmingham, with a stable business and experienced management team.

The company is investing in strengthening its internal finance capability, creating an opportunity for the successful Part Time Finance Manager to make a visible impact rather than simply inherit a routine reporting role.

You will work closely with the Managing Director and senior management, improving management information, budgeting and financial insight while becoming a trusted part of the wider leadership team.

As Part Time Finance Manager, you will take ownership of a broad finance remit alongside practical HR responsibilities.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Owning the budgeting process and providing clear commentary on performance, variances and areas requiring attention.

• Managing and supporting the accounts team, improving processes and allocating workload effectively.

• Preparing payroll information for the external payroll provider and overseeing pensions, expenses, company cards and associated administration.

• Working with operational colleagues around stock valuation, stock variances and obsolete stock.

• Helping assess and potentially implement improved finance and budgeting tools.

• Providing practical HR support to managers across the business.

• Supporting recruitment, onboarding, attendance, holidays and employment documentation.

• Providing administrative support around disciplinary and grievance processes, with external specialist support where appropriate.

This is a varied position combining hands-on finance with the commercial and people-focused aspects of helping to run a profitable SME.

This Part Time Finance Manager opportunity is likely to appeal to an experienced finance professional in the Midlands area who still enjoys being hands-on, but wants the opportunity to influence decisions and work directly with senior management.

You could be ACCA or CIMA qualified, part-qualified or studying, with a minimum qualification of AAT Level 4.

More important than a particular qualification route is your ability to understand the numbers, communicate what they mean and use financial information to help management make better commercial decisions.

Experience within an SME would be particularly valuable, as would the confidence to operate autonomously and take ownership of a broad finance remit.

Previous HR experience would be advantageous but is not essential. The business is primarily looking for a capable, organised and pragmatic finance professional who is comfortable taking responsibility and enjoys variety.
