Job summary

Matthew James Recruitment Ltd is seeking a practical Handyman / Facilities Maintenance Operative in Leicestershire. This permanent, part-time position offers 3 days per week with a salary of £40,000 per annum (pro rata) and a hands-on maintenance remit.

The role covers general repairs across the site, basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and routine inspections. You’ll work with minimal supervision, ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Handyman or Maintenance role.
• Good knowledge of building maintenance and repairs.
• Practical skills across trades: plumbing, carpentry, decorating.
• Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs independently.
• Proactive and flexible attitude; strong organisation; reliable.
• Able to prioritise workloads with minimal supervision.
• Positive, hands-on approach; willing to take on varied tasks.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general building maintenance, repairs and upkeep across the site.
• Undertake basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, decorating and general handyman duties.
• Identify and resolve minor maintenance issues efficiently.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance and routine site inspections.
• Carry out minor repairs to fixtures, fittings, doors and other building facilities.
• Respond to day-to-day maintenance requests from staff and management.
• Maintain a safe, clean and well-organised working environment.
• Identify larger maintenance issues requiring specialist contractors.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures.
