Job summary

Confidential in Nottingham is seeking an experienced part-time bookkeeper for 20–25 hours per week, fully on-site with free parking. You will manage day-to-day bookkeeping, reconciliations, VAT, and reporting, working closely with the business owner to improve processes and financial controls.

The role offers a varied, hands-on workload with opportunities for extension beyond an initial three-month contract and potential longer-term opportunity.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on bookkeeping experience.
• Experience using Sage Cloud and Xero.
• Understanding of nominal ledger coding, journals and bank reconciliations.
• Experience processing invoices and managing customer and supplier accounts.
• Knowledge of VAT and VAT treatments.
• Strong Excel skills and good general IT ability.
• Attention to detail and good organisational skills.
• Proactive and able to take ownership of day-to-day responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping using Sage Cloud and Xero.
• Maintain accurate nominal ledger coding and process journal entries.
• Complete bank, card and relevant control account reconciliations.
• Process sales and purchase invoices, allocate customer receipts and record supplier payments.
• Check supplier invoices, pricing discrepancies, credit notes and additional charges.
• Support VAT returns, including appropriate VAT treatments.
• Monitor aged debt, issue customer statements and chase overdue payments.
• Reconcile supplier statements and assist with payment-run preparation.
• Prepare financial information, including profit and loss figures and cash-flow information.
• Support payroll administration, staff expenses and year-end preparation where required.
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes, reporting and financial controls.
