Job summary

National Star is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Chef to support the Head Chef in delivering high-quality dishes across our restaurant, hospitality services, delivery service and special events. You will also mentor students with learning and physical disabilities during work placements in a busy commercial kitchen.

You will assist with menu development, stock control and event catering while upholding food hygiene and safety standards, in a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds (or equivalent).
• Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
• Experience as Assistant Chef or similar.
• Strong cooking skills with emphasis on fresh, seasonal food.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience mentoring or training others, especially young people or disabled individuals.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and present high-quality dishes in a busy kitchen.
• Support the Head Chef and contribute to menu development.
• Assist with stock control and event catering.
• Mentor students completing work placements.
• Ensure food hygiene and health and safety standards.
