Job summary

Derwentside College in Consett is seeking an Assessor to deliver hairdressing training in our on-site salon. This fixed-term post offers 7 hours per week, with sessions from 8.30am–2pm on a Friday, plus 1.5 hours planning time flexibly.

You will bring in-depth industry experience, hold a Level 2 Hairdressing qualification (and ideally Level 2 Maths and English), and may be working towards the TAQA Assessor Qualification.

Qualifications

• TAQA Assessor Qualification (may be in progress)
• Experience supporting teaching and learning in a salon environment is advantageous

We are seeking to appoint an Assessor who has the expertise and drive to match the expectations of our learners.

What will you do?

As an Assessor, you will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of skilled professionals. You’ll bring your passion for hairdressing into a dynamic and rewarding teaching environment where your industry expertise will directly influence learner success.

You will support the delivery of high-quality, engaging training within our on-site salon, supporting learners to deliver client sessions allowing them to connect theory to practice, building their confidence and competence.

In order to be successful in this role, you will have in-depth industry experience, along with a recognised level 2 Hairdressing qualification and ideally a minimum of a level 2 qualification in maths and English. You will either have or be willing to work towards the TAQA Assessor Qualification. Experience of supporting teaching and learning in a salon environment or workplace would be an advantage.

This is a fixed-term post, working 7 hours per week (to be worked in College 8.30am – 2pm on a Friday, with the remaining 1.5 hours for planning to be worked flexibly) until 30 th June 2027, the starting salary will depend upon an individual’s level of experience.
