Job summary

The City of Liverpool College in Liverpool is seeking a Bank Hairdressing Lecturer to deliver teaching from Level 1 to Level 3, focusing on up-to-date industry practices, advanced cutting and colouring techniques, and pastoral care.

This temporary role requires a Level 3 hairdressing qualification, teaching qualification or vocational experience, strong IT skills, and the ability to plan lessons, assess learners, and support progression while promoting safeguarding and inclusion.

Qualifications

• Educated to Level 3 or above in Hairdressing.
• A recognised Teaching qualification or vocational experience.
• Professional qualification relevant to the subject area.
• Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College.
• Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in hairdressing.
• Knowledge and understanding of Hairdressing Techniques.
• Engaged in Continuing Professional Development.
• Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete.
• High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues, and themselves.
• Experience of resource-based learning.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality lessons and assess learning across levels 1 to L3.
• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging teaching to manage the learning process.
• Create a motivating learning environment and promote positive behaviour.
• Plan and use teaching techniques to encourage independence and autonomy.
• Track student progress and attendance; provide feedback and records.

Description

Job Title: Bank Hairdresser Lecturer

Salary: £36.39 per hour
Job Type: Temporary, up to 24 hours per week

To contribute to achieving excellence in teaching and learning through innovative and excellent practice. You will be expected to create effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment. You will deliver teaching and learning on all levels, from Level 1 through to L3, and offer current and relevant industry/practitioner skills. You will be able to teach and demonstrate that you have updated knowledge of industry practices in a full range of hairdressing skills, including advanced cutting and colouring techniques up to Level 3, and good communication skills. Pastoral care will be an additional focus of the role, and you will take responsibility for both personal and group tutorials to establish a cohesive learning experience that enables progression and development to higher levels or future employment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College, ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.

3. Stay informed of national developments in the subject area and update knowledge and skills annually.
4. Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons to manage the learning process effectively.
5. Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students, encouraging independence and student autonomy.
6. Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident, and valued.
7. Establish and maintain procedures with students that promote appropriate behaviour, communication, and respect, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
8. Set and mark work according to College and School Assessment policies, and record work carried out and assessment outcomes.
9. Track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with College systems and policies.
10. Provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
11. Be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and participate in their implementation.
12. Evaluate and improve communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers.
13. Liaise with the Head of School to contribute to the design of programmes and teaching approaches that enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value-added outcomes.
14. Collaborate with the Head of School and curriculum teams in the administration necessary to support teaching, learning, and assessment in the subject area.
15. Work with colleagues to identify and address additional student English and Maths skills development in the subject area.
16. Review own professional development needs and participate in future training and development opportunities.
17. Communicate and consult with parents, carers, and students, including for Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, events, and open evenings.
18. Ensure all students in the subject area comply with the College’s policies and procedures.
19. Provide enriching opportunities that are exciting, motivating, and enhance the student experience.
20. To contribute fully to the mission and values of the college Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of college life.
21. To take a proactive approach to Health and Safety requirements at all times.
