Bedford College Group is seeking an Associate Lecturer in Hairdressing in Central Bedfordshire. The role is sessional and hourly paid, with 16 hours per week and a rate of £38 per hour.

You will join the Hair & Beauty department to deliver high-quality teaching and support student achievement. Responsibilities include planning schemes of work, ensuring awarding body compliance, maintaining student records, and participating in curriculum development and employer engagement.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 3 Hair/Beauty Therapy qualification.
• Assessor qualifications are desirable.
• Experience with teaching qualifications is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of current Beauty industry practices.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality teaching and assessment across Hairdressing courses.
• Develop schemes of work and learning materials meeting awarding body requirements.
• Maintain accurate student records and monitor attendance.

About the role

We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer to join our Hair & Beauty department at The Bedford College Group.

• Teaching, Learning & Student Achievement - Deliver high-quality teaching and assessment across a range of courses, supporting learners to achieve their potential through engaging, inclusive and effective learning experiences.
• Curriculum Planning & Quality Assurance - Develop schemes of work, learning materials and assessments that meet awarding body requirements, while monitoring student progress, undertaking verification and contributing to quality improvement activities.
• Student Support & Administration - Maintain accurate student records, complete course administration, monitor attendance and achievement, and provide guidance to help students meet required standards and deadlines.
• Curriculum Development & Employer Engagement - Contribute to curriculum innovation, course development, employer partnerships, vocational opportunities, student recruitment, and marketing activities such as Open Days and careers events.
• Safeguarding, Equality & Professional Standards - Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, health and safety, and ongoing professional development while maintaining positive learning environments and upholding College policies and values.

About you

• Industry Qualifications & Professional Development - Holds a Level 3 Hair/Beauty Therapy qualification, with assessor qualifications desirable, and demonstrates a commitment to continuing professional development including teaching qualifications and industry updating.
• Teaching & Assessment Expertise - Experienced in teaching, assessing and monitoring student progress in Beauty Therapy, with the ability to plan effective lessons, develop schemes of work, and support learners of varying ages, abilities and backgrounds.
• Industry Knowledge & FE Experience - Strong understanding of current Beauty industry practices, awarding body requirements (e.g. City & Guilds), and ideally has experience working within both the Beauty sector and Further Education environment.
• Communication, Teamwork & Student Support - Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, with a customer-focused approach, commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding, and the ability to work collaboratively to achieve team objectives.
• Professionalism, Flexibility & Compliance - Demonstrates high professional standards, works in line with organisational values, maintains health and safety responsibilities, is flexible with working arrangements, and is willing to travel across service locations as required

What is an Associate?

Associates work on a short-term basis as assigned. They teach or provide support services, and they work with and are supported by core staff. As an Associate you will be issued with an Associate Agreement, under this Agreement period you will be eligible to work on assignments offered to you.
