Job description

We are seeking a detail-orientated and career driven Paralegal to join our team as a Prospect Assessor. As a Prospect Assessor you will be responsible for managing a caseload of newly referred cases from Arag Legal Expense Insurers with a view to conducting thorough initial assessments to determine their prospects of success.

Whilst you will be encouraged to take early responsibility for the assessment of cases, you will work under appropriate supervision and in accordance with a 12-month training plan which aims to develop your knowledge and skills in employment law litigation. This role is ideal for an individual starting out in their legal career who has a strong interest in law and is keen to develop into a full case handler with responsibility for managing legal cases from start to finish.

Key responsibilities include:
  • To manage a caseload of circa 25 pre-litigated and/or litigated cases on behalf of a range of personal and commercial clients with a view to assessing the prospects of success of claims and defences.
  • Reviewing newly referred legal claims to assess the prospect of success based upon the available instructions, evidence and relevant legal tests. Provide well drafted written assessments to customers.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, insurers and third parties regarding case viability, options and next steps.
  • Ensure the claim is handled throughout in accordance with the requirements of our client’s legal expenses insurance policy.
  • Delivering on team SLA’s, KPI’s, financial and performance targets to drive efficiency, performance, billing and throughput within the team.
  • To work in conjunction with a 12-month training plan aimed at developing knowledge and employment law litigation skills.
  • Identifying risks in relation to the claim brought by the client, risks to the company such as fraudulent and exaggerated claims and reporting them appropriately. Expectation of commercial awareness when taking risk based decisions.
  • Ensuring the work is delivered with a close eye to risk management and with a high level of client service excellence.
  • Able to take personal ownership of customer problems until resolved.
We are looking for candidates with the following:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills especially around being able to explain legal concepts to clients in a straightforward and easily understood manner.
  • You should have experience in confidently communicating with a variety of external parties.
  • Whilst extremely rewarding, due to the nature of our clients disputes this role can occasionally be quite sensitive and challenging, and you should therefore be resilient and have a good level of confidence to manage vulnerable clients
  • Good knowledge and skillset in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Teams.
  • Be enthusiastic and willing to learn, and to work as part of a team. Have the ability to act on own initiative, knowing when to seek support.
  • You must be customer focussed in your approach to work and strive to provide a quality and efficient service to clients, including commercial insurer clients.
  • You must have the ability to identify risks and/or issues along with making suggestions for the appropriate mitigation of the same and to escape them appropriately in accordance with company policy.
  • Have an ability to prioritise and work under pressure managing numerous commitments simultaneously.
