Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

The Court of Protection is the judicial body responsible for making decisions relating to the management of finances and other affairs of those individuals who lack the mental capacity to do so themselves. As one of the UK’s leading firms of solicitors, we have a dedicated and experienced team who specialise in all matters relating to the Court of Protection. Our Care Advisory Team is a small specialist team within the Court of Protection department responsible for managing all directly employed care issues that arise on matters across the Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Cambridge, Bristol, London and Birmingham offices.

In this role, you will act as the first point of contact for all queries received into the team, ensuring they are directed and escalated as appropriate. This plays a key role in liaising with internal stakeholders and clients to provide advice and respond to queries, which can be time-sensitive and within emotive circumstances. The role not only plays an integral part in protecting and enhancing client care but also ensures case handlers have sufficient capacity to service valuable deputyship work and the relationships with families and external parties.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  1. Liaising with core stakeholders including case managers and other fee earners regarding care issues on all directly employed care packages. These could range from a request to change hours to matters where support workers are suspended and investigated due to conduct issues.
  2. Taking instructions from clients and assisting with providing legal advice, including obtaining evidence and, where appropriate, achieving suitable resolutions for clients.
  3. Achieving time recording and fee income targets to ensure profitable working.
  4. Attending and contributing to team and practice area meetings and complying with directions/decisions made to ensure team objectives are met.

About You

We are seeking a Paralegal with excellent client care skills, a well-motivated individual with a friendly, enthusiastic, and proactive approach. Our ideal candidate will have:

  1. An undergraduate law degree or equivalent
  2. Demonstrable interest in Court of Protection work
  3. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  4. The ability to work well both as part of a team and independently
  5. Previous experience as a Paralegal or in Human Resources
  6. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  7. The ability to be sensitive and sympathetic while understanding our clients’ needs
