Job summary

Saint Michaels Hospice is seeking a registered nurse for the inpatient unit. The role focuses on planning individual care, symptom management, and supporting patients and families through admissions, discharges and emotional distress.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team and may take on shift coordination once trained. Essential requirements include NMC registration, a nursing degree or equivalent, and practical clinical experience.

Qualifications

• Nursing degree or suitable alternative.
• NMC registration as a registered nurse.
• Practice assessor qualification, or willingness to work towards it.
• Current practical nursing experience in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Develop tailored care plans, administer medication and manage symptoms to ensure comfort.
• Work with a multidisciplinary team and manage patient admissions and discharges.
• Provide emotional support for patients and families.
• Act as key worker for a designated caseload.
• Assess complex patient needs, carry out risk assessments and elevate when required.
• Allocate work and take responsibility for delegated tasks.
• Act as shift coordinator once trained, overseeing team nursing care.
• Assess patients' ability to self-manage and provide education and guidance.
• Maintain accurate patient records and collect data on activity, outcomes and quality.
• Refer to other professionals, signpost to agencies and communicate across the care pathway.
• Contribute to audit, service development and governance, including adverse event reporting.
• Mentor or preceptor new staff and students and contribute to training other professionals.
