Job summary

Rise Technical Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Painter & Decorator to move into a trainer role within a Further Education provider's Construction department in Wigan. You will deliver practical workshop and classroom training, drawing on real-world trade experience to teach preparation, application, finishing and quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have current industry experience with a related vocational qualification.

Qualifications

• Current or recent Painting & Decorating industry experience with a relevant vocational qualification.
• Teaching experience is desirable but not essential; full support will be provided to achieve a recognised teaching qualification.
• Ability to transfer practical skills into teaching and learner assessment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Painting & Decorating training across practical and theory-based programmes.
• Demonstrate preparation, application, finishing and quality-checking techniques.
• Teach learners how to use tools, materials and workshop equipment safely.
• Develop learner knowledge of professional standards and industry practices.
• Plan engaging sessions to build practical ability and technical understanding.
• Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment and progress.
• Support learners towards further study and employment or apprenticeships.
• Promote health, safety and professional conduct standards.
• Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement.
• Support Open Evenings and recruitment activities as required.

Are you an experienced Painter & Decorator looking to step away from full-time site work and move into training?

Do you want to use your industry experience to develop the next generation of tradespeople while gaining recognised teaching qualifications and enjoying excellent benefits?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established Further Education provider within its Construction department. You'll work with learners developing their Painting & Decorating skills from the ground up, helping them build the practical ability, technical knowledge and professional standards required to progress into apprenticeships, employment or further study.

As a Painting & Decorating Trainer, you'll deliver a mixture of practical workshop and classroom-based training. You'll use your real-world trade experience to teach preparation, application techniques, finishing, materials, tools, safe working practices and quality standards while supporting learners to become confident and work-ready.

The ideal candidate will have current or recent Painting & Decorating industry experience alongside a relevant vocational qualification. Previous teaching experience is desirable but not essential, as full support can be provided for experienced industry professionals looking to transition into education and work towards a recognised teaching qualification.

The role:

• Permanent position, 37 hours per week.
• Full support provided to gain a recognised teaching qualification.

The person:

• Experienced Painter & Decorator or related Construction professional.
• Relevant vocational qualification in Painting & Decorating or a related discipline.
• Current or recent industry experience.
• Strong practical knowledge of Painting & Decorating techniques, tools and materials.
• Confident demonstrating preparation, application and finishing techniques.
• Teaching experience desirable but not essential.
• Experience training, coaching, mentoring or supporting others beneficial.
• Willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification.
• Level 2 English and Maths, or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe.
• Strong understanding of safe working and workshop practices.
• Patient, supportive and confident maintaining high standards.
• Organised and comfortable managing assessment and learner records.
• Committed to safeguarding, inclusion and learner success.
• Able to work across College sites when required.
• Passionate about passing on trade knowledge and developing the next generation of Painters & Decorators.
