Job summary

Groundforce in Derby is seeking a Depot operative to prepare hire equipment and maintain depot standards. You will work under the Foreman, liaise with the line manager to meet customer needs, and operate forklifts and pressure washers to keep equipment in top condition.

The role requires accuracy in records, basic IT with scanners, and a flexible, reliable approach with a valid UK driving licence. In-house training is provided for tools and safe handling.

Qualifications

• Ability to complete records and paperwork accurately is essential.
• Capable of using scanners, PDAs, tablets and computers.
• A reasonable level of fitness is required.
• Flexible, trustworthy and reliable with excellent time keeping.
• Valid full clean driving licence.
• Knowledge of shoring commercial operations is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Working in the Depot under instructions from the Depot Foreman/Leadinghand to prepare equipment for hire
• Liaise with line manager to understand customer requirements and maintain service levels
• Use airless sprayer to paint hire equipment and depot assets as per competency
• Paint with hand brush/roller when applicable per procedures
• Complete stencilling of hire equipment and depot assets
• Drive counterbalance or multi-directional forklift trucks to load/unload vehicles and move equipment
• Pick/return/scan equipment, identify stock variances
• Load/unload equipment safely and correctly
• Use pressure washer to clean equipment
• Inspect, service and repair equipment per competency and procedures
• Use pneumatic/electrical hand tools (in-house training provided)
• Maintain up-to-date service/inspection records
• Identify and record damage of out-of-service equipment
• Ensure stock levels and quality of equipment meet standards
• Maintain a safe, clean, and tidy depot environment
• Occasional depot van driving as required
• Carry out any other duties within skill and competence as directed

Key Responsibilities

• Use and maintenance of airless sprayer to complete painting of hire equipment and depot assets in line with level of competency, to company procedures ensuring company policies and processes are followed
• Use hand brush/roller paint techniques where applicable to complete painting of hire equipment and depot assets in line with level of competency, to company procedures ensuring company policies and processes are followed
• Complete stencilling of hire equipment and depot assets in line with level of competency, to company procedures ensuring company policies and processes are followed
• Drive counterbalance or multi-directional forklift trucks to load/unload vehicles, move, prepare and store equipment (full in-house training will be provided)
• Where deemed necessary, pick/return/scan equipment accurately and identify stock overages/shortages
• Where deemed necessary, load and unload equipment correctly and safely
• Use pressure washer to clean equipment
• Where deemed necessary, inspect, service and repair specified hire equipment and depot assets in line with level of competency, to company procedures ensuring company policies and processes are followed
• Use of pneumatic/electrical hand tools (full in-house training will be provided)
• Keep up to date and accurate service/inspection records at all times
• Identify and record damage of out of service equipment
• Ensure stock levels accurately maintained and quality of equipment is kept in line with company quality standards
• Have a positive attitude towards Health, Safety and the Environment reporting any issues to your supervisor
• Maintain the depot to a high standard keeping clean and tidy
• Occasionally drive the depot van as deemed necessary
• When considered necessary or appropriate by management you may be required to carry out any duties considered within your skill and competence to assist the smooth running of the business

What We’re Looking For

• Ability to complete records and paperwork accurately is essential
• Capability to use scanners, PDA’s, tablets and computers
• A reasonable level of fitness is required
• To be flexible, trustworthy and reliable and have excellent time keeping skills is essential
• Valid full clean driving licence
• Knowledge of shoring commercial operations
• Working knowledge of construction/housing/civil engineering industry advantageous
• Knowledge of shoring/hire industry
• Spray painting experience would be advantageous but not essential ((full in-house training will be provided)
