Painter and Decorator – Millom – Secure site – call for salary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Painter/Decorator to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account at HMP Haverigg. This role is based on-site. You will need your own transport due to the remote location of this site, which is over an hour from Lancaster.

There will be a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, on a rota basis, with an additional allowance of 15% of the basic salary.

The Painter/Decorator plays an important role in ensuring planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out safely, compliantly, and promptly.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, across 7 days, with a weekend shift pattern.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Performing planned and reactive paint work in all areas of the prison.
  2. Maintaining tools, materials, and company property.
  3. Ensuring health and safety standards are met across the contract.

This role is unique as you will ensure all work is carried out to the highest safety standards, sometimes working alongside and supervising prisoners. Prison Security Clearance is required; we will support you through this process.

Candidate requirements:
  • Must be a fully qualified Painter.
  • Previous relevant work experience.
  • Good understanding of personal health and safety, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Comfortable working alongside prisoners.
  • Ideally qualified to NVQ level 3 in Painting and Decorating, but NVQ level 2 will also be considered.
