Job summary

Gov Facilities Services Limited (GFSL) is seeking a practical Painter & Decorator for HMP Portland. The role is permanent and full-time, 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday, within a busy prison maintenance team.

You will work alongside skilled tradespeople to maintain a secure, safe environment for prisoners and staff. The successful candidate will hold City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3 in Painting and Decorating or equivalent, with experience in maintenance and a strong commitment to health and

Responsibilities

• Carry out painting and decorating tasks to required standards within the facilities.
• Work with a maintenance team including plumbers, electricians, carpenters and cleaners to maintain a safe environment.
• Uphold health and safety procedures and keep areas tidy and compliant.

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team at HMP Portland, a category C adult male and YOI prison.

We are a Ministry of Justice business and provide critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, and are looking for a Painter & Decorator with a combination of:

- A City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Painting and decorating or equivalent (or significant experience/time served in a similar role)

- Experience working in a maintenance team

- An honest and reliable character, who can approach their work with a sense of purpose and pace

- Good Health & Safety knowledge

- Excellent organisational, time management and people skills

Future Plans.

GFSL has been notified by it's shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM Services will in future be delivered by the private sector. This means that following a successful procurement process, GFSL's services will complete transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
