Job overview
  • Assist with the provision of healthcare services within the Children’s department. The post holder will carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse to ensure the individual needs of the children and families are met.
  • The post holder will provide the necessary care for children and parents/carers under the supervision of a qualified nurse. This supportive role includes clinical and administrative support as required
Main duties of the job
  • Provide a high standard of communication with staff and patients
    Will display effective, clear and sensitive communication when dealing with children/young people and families and be able to contribute and communicate clearly both verbally and written within the Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Ensure telephone enquiries are managed sensitively and appropriate action initiated.
  • Receive and direct visitors in a helpful and friendly manner.
  • Ability to play, interact and communicate with children /young people of all ages.
  • Support the clinical manager in the implementation of any changes/actions as a result of a complaint.
  • Will relate necessary information /details as required and guided by the qualified nurse to the appropriate persons.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To actively take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a RN, working within the Trust's policies and procedures and the philosophy of the department.
  • To be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of an RN and to be continually aware of the need for confidentiality.
  • To assist patients to carry out personal care.
  • To assist patient to mobilise where appropriate.
  • Testing specimens and recording the results.
  • Taking and recording of temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height and weight on instruction from the RN. Recording the results appropriately and reporting any abnormalities to the RN or Nurse in Charge.
  • Under the supervision of the RN, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Under supervision of the RN, provide direct supervision and support of the young person admitted with mental health disorders.
