Job summary

Sharpak Aylesham is recruiting for a permanent warehouse operative at its Aylesham site. You will work in the Packing Desk team linking Production and Despatch, performing general warehousing duties with a strong health and safety focus.

The role offers 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm rotating shifts with a starting rate of £12.71 per hour plus an enhanced shift allowance. A reliable vehicle may be needed to access the site.

Qualifications

• Experience in high-volume manufacturing or FMCG environment preferred.
• Able to operate warehouse equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Stack pallets on packing belt safely and consistently.
• Check quality and wrap pallets for safe transport.
• Label pallets correctly and verify colleague work.
• Operate PPT, pallet truck, scanners safely.
• Monitor metal detector issues and file near-miss reports when needed.
• Ensure a steady supply of pallets for packing desk.
• Follow company policies to keep packing desk running smoothly.
• Maintain a clean and safe packing desk area.
• Undertake other duties as required by business needs.

Sharpak Aylesham is a manufacturer of thermoformed plastic packaging for use in the Fresh Produce and Food Service divisions. Established in 1968, the site has significantly grown in recent years and aims to be the first choice for rigid plastic packaging solutions through our reliability, efficiency, and innovation as a manufacturer of sustainable packaging on a local and global platform.

Role Purpose

As part of the Packing Desk team, the aim of the role is to support a smooth, efficient and high quality service as the ‘link’ between the Production and Despatch departments. The role holder is required to undertake a range of general warehousing duties and follow company procedures, working to a high standard of health and safety, to ensure the product is sent to customers in a professional and safe way.

Contract: Permanent

Shifts Available

6am-2pm/ 2pm-10pm (Rotating) (£12.71 per hour + enhanced shift allowance)

Key Responsibilities

• Stack pallets with boxes from the packing belt, ensuring that the products are consistent on each pallet, and stacked safely;
• Check box quality on full pallets, and wrap correctly to ensure safe transportation through the warehouse and to the customer;
• Responsible for checking and adhering the correct pallet labels to the appropriate pallet and double-checking the work of others;
• Safe operation of Powered Pallet Truck (PPT), hand pallet truck, hand scanners, and other such equipment as necessary to the role;
• Awareness of metal detection system malfunctions, including completion of near-miss forms if metal detection or box damage is observed;
• Provide an adequate supply of new pallets in the Packing Desk area to ensure a smooth and continuous service;
• Follow company policy and procedures at all times to support the effective running of the Packing Desk;
• Responsible for providing a safe working environment by keeping the Packing Desk area clean and tidy;
• Undertake such other duties that are deemed reasonable and commensurate with the role according to business needs.

Experience/Skills

• Experience of working in a similar role within a high-volume manufacturing, FMCG or fresh produce environment would be advantageous
• Team worker with a flexible approach to the role and others
• A hands-on approach to the role with a keen eye for detail
• Positive working attitude when working alone or within a team
