Job summary

Numatic International in the United Kingdom is seeking a Packaging Manager to oversee the design, development and execution of packaging across a diverse product base with a focus on compliance, efficiency, sustainability and brand alignment.

The role leads packaging projects from concept to production, collaborating with product development, marketing, operations and supply chain to deliver cost-effective, high-quality packaging solutions.

Qualifications

  • Degree level in technical subject or relevant knowledge through work experience.
  • Desirable: Superuser in MRP/ERP systems (Oracle or other).
  • Desirable: CIPS accreditation level 5.
  • Proven packaging ownership within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in packaging design, engineering, or management (FMCG).
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials, processes and sustainability.
  • Familiarity with packaging design software such as ArtiosCAD or Illustrator.
  • Proven ability to influence and negotiate with internal stakeholders.
  • Awareness of WEEE and EPR legislation requirements.

Job description

We’re thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Packaging Manager

The role will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and execution of packaging solutions across a diverse product base and will have the key objectives to ensure compliance, efficiency, sustainability, and deliver alignment with brand standards

The Packaging Manager will contribute significantly to the work of the department and will be a key contributor to the department with an in-depth knowledge and be accountable for providing and promoting excellence with high quality purchasing activities and category management requirements. Using significant technical knowledge and substantial influencing and negotiating skills the Packaging Manager will have the key objective to deliver cost effective and flexible solutions, through all stages of development to production release.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as a specialist ‘day to day’ point of contact and lead the end-to-end packaging process, from concept to production, ensuring designs meet brand, cost, and sustainability goals.
  • Collaborate with product development, marketing, operations and supply chain teams to create packaging that aligns with product requirements and brand identity.
  • Manage relationships with packaging suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee testing and validation of packaging for durability, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Implement innovative materials and processes to improve sustainability and reduce costs.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor packaging to keep our designs fresh and competitive.
  • Engage with internal specialists to support continuous improvement through innovation, commercialisation and business needs.
  • Ensure attention to detail, rectification of process errors and cost control are considerations on all aspects of direct category management activities and tasks.
ABOUT YOU:
  • Degree level in technical subject or relevant knowledge through work experience.
  • Desirable; Superuser status in functions of MRP / ERP system (Oracle or other).
  • Desirable; Chartered Institute of Purchasing (CIPS) accreditation level 5.
  • Proven track record in packaging ownership within a manufacturing or product development environment.
  • Proven experience in packaging design, engineering, or management, ideally in fast moving consumer good (FMCG), consumer goods, or relevant similar industry.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability best practices.
  • Familiarity with packaging design software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, Adobe Illustrator) is a plus
  • Demonstrable effective judgement and decision-making experience, with proven success in influencing and negotiation with internal stakeholders.
  • Awareness of compliance legislation requirements related to packaging (e.g. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws)
