Job summary

Omega Resource Group is recruiting a Maintenance Engineer for packaging machinery in the Nottingham area. The role focuses on maintaining high-speed packaging lines, with responsibility for planned, preventative and reactive maintenance, and a clear path for technical development.

The ideal candidate will be multi-skilled in electrical and mechanical disciplines, with FMCG packaging experience and qualifications in engineering.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining packaging machinery / high-speed packaging lines.
  • Background in FMCG or packaging production environments.
  • Qualified in electrical or mechanical engineering per above.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance on high-speed packaging machinery.
  • Fault find and repair across electrical systems (sensors, drives, controls, PLCs) and mechanical systems (bearings, gearboxes, chains, belts).
  • Conduct machine inspections and report equipment condition, performance issues and reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Support and deliver continuous improvement projects, including Packaging Line Optimisation.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely using correct procedures and tools.

Maintenance Engineer - Packaging Bias

Location: Nottingham area
Salary: Up to £48,000 + overtime
Contract Type: Permanent
Shift Pattern: 4 ON / 4 OFF or 3 shifts roating available

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for maintenance engineers with a strong background in packaging machinery to join a global manufacturing leader. There are several internal promotions requiring new roles on the sucession plan for engineers.

This role has been created due to significant site expansion, automation, and investment, offering the opportunity to work in a highly automated, world-class production environment.

You will be maintaining high-speed packaging lines producing globally recognised consumer products, within a large-scale facility employing hundreds of people. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers looking for career progression, technical development, and exposure to advanced automation.

Key Responsibilities - Packaging Maintenance Focus

Carry out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance on high-speed packaging machinery. This is a mechanically boased role. Leading the Packaging line machines

Fault find and repair across:

  • Filling machines
  • Sealing, labelling and coding equipment
  • Conveyors and palletisers
  • Wrapping and automated packaging systems

Diagnose and resolve faults on:

  • Electrical systems (sensors, drives, controls, PLCs)
  • Mechanical systems (bearings, gearboxes, chains, belts)

Conduct machine inspections, reporting on:

  • Equipment condition
  • Performance issues
  • Opportunities for reliability improvements

Support and deliver continuous improvement projects, including Packaging Line Optimisation

Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely using correct procedures and tools

Ideal Candidate Profile -Packaging Machine Engineer

We are particularly interested in engineers with direct experience in packaging or FMCG production environments.

  • multi-skilled (electrical & mechanical)
  • Strong experience maintaining packaging machinery / high-speed production lines
  • Experience working in: FMCG, Packaging / bottling / food production, Manufacturing or process environments
Qualifications:
  • Level 3 NVQ / Apprenticeship in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical)
  • OR HNC / HND in Engineering
  • OR equivalent hands-on experience in a manufacturing setting
