Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a proactive Packaging Engineer to act as the primary boots on the ground engineering presence at their Stockton facility. The role focuses on designing, optimizing, and implementing packaging solutions that protect products and reduce transport damage.

Based onsite in Stockton-on-Tees, you will own projects end-to-end with high autonomy, collaborating with suppliers and internal teams to drive continuous improvement across the supply chain.

Qualifications

• Background in engineering or technical role within packaging, automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial manufacturing.
• Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings.
• Strong project management with independent leadership.
• Excellent communication and proactive problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Packaging Design & Review: design, develop, and optimize packaging solutions using 3D CAD software.
• CAD drawings: read, interpret, and review technical/CAD drawings for safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
• Continuous Improvement: lead root cause analysis and risk-based decisions to minimize damage and optimize returnable packaging.
• Supplier & Site Collaboration: provide specifications to suppliers and coordinate packaging approvals across supply chain, logistics, and manufacturing teams.

Job Title: Packaging Engineer

Location: Stockton-on-Tees (Fully Onsite)

Pay Rate: Competitive / Up to £33.00/hr+ (DOE / Umbrella / PAYE options)

Contract: 12-Month Contract (Likely to Extend)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri 08:00 - 16:00 core shift with flexibility)

Currently supported remotely, this critical role offers high autonomy and complete project ownership to design, optimize, and implement packaging solutions that protect products, reduce transport damage, and drive continuous improvement across the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

• Packaging Design & Review: Design, develop, and optimize packaging solutions for a wide range of industrial components using 3D CAD software.


• CAD & Technical Drawings: Read, interpret, and review technical/CAD drawings to ensure alignment with safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.


• Continuous Improvement: Lead root cause analysis and risk-based decision-making to minimize transportation damage and optimize returnable packaging systems.


• Supplier & Site Collaboration: Provide detailed specifications to suppliers, coordinate packaging approvals, and manage relationships across supply chain, logistics, and manufacturing teams.

Requirements

• Technical Skills: CAD software proficiency and proven experience reading/interpreting CAD drawings.


• Experience: Background in an engineering or technical role within packaging, automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial manufacturing environments.


• Project Management: Strong track record of leading projects independently with an accountability mindset.


• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, influence, and proactive problem-solving abilities.


• Mobility: Willingness for occasional regional day-trips to supplier sites or the CAT Desford facility for training.
