Job summary

Munich Re Group is seeking an Underwriter for Property & Casualty to be based in either Birmingham or Leeds on a full-time basis. You will underwrite new and renewal business, manage end-to-end underwriting, and collaborate with senior underwriters to maintain a high-quality portfolio.

The role emphasizes technical underwriting expertise, market knowledge, and strong relationships with intermediaries and customers, supporting sustainable growth and adherence to risk guidelines.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate a high level of underwriting knowledge, with experience in Real Estate considered advantageous.
• Possess a solid understanding of technical underwriting principles, company philosophy, and trading strategy.
• Ability to interpret and effectively utilize management information to support decision-making.
• Exhibit excellent communication skills to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain strong knowledge of the local market dynamics.
• Build and sustain collaborative internal relationships with Line of Business Managers, team members, underwriters, the Claims Department, and the Syndicate.
• Develop and manage external relationships with a diverse range of contacts within allocated intermediaries and customers.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal business for allocated intermediaries and customers in line with guidelines, risk appetite, and delegated authority; manage end-to-end underwriting of cases to deliver agreed business development plans aligned with the Company's trading strategy.
• Make timely, effective underwriting decisions within delegated authority, referring complex risks as appropriate; support underwriting of complex or multinational accounts by contributing tailored solutions.
• Collaborate closely with senior underwriters and key stakeholders within the UK regional business to ensure consistent underwriting processes.
• Plan and manage own workload efficiently to meet customer service standards and credit control targets; contribute to building and managing a profitable, balanced, and sustainable portfolio.
• Continuously develop technical underwriting knowledge and skills through training, mentoring, and practical experience.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to the role level as required.
