Job summary

Accountable Recruitment is supporting a North West accountancy practice in recruiting an Outsourcing Assistant Manager to bolster its Liverpool team. You will manage a varied client portfolio with accounts, VAT and month-end reporting, while helping with budgeting, forecasting and systems improvements.

The role offers hybrid working, a mix of advisory and compliance tasks, and opportunities to mentor junior staff and drive process enhancements across outsourced finance functions.

Responsibilities

• Support Outsourcing Managers with day-to-day client portfolio management.
• Review bookkeeping, VAT, and management accounts prepared by juniors.
• Assist with month-end close and finalisation of management accounts.
• Provide insightful commentary to help clients understand their numbers.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cost control activities.
• Monitor deadlines, SLAs and compliance, escalate issues early.
• Assist with training and development of junior staff.

Looking to take the next step in your accountancy career with a role that goes beyond traditional year-end accounts and compliance?

A well-established and highly respected North West accountancy practice is looking to appoint an Outsourcing Assistant Manager to join its growing Liverpool team.

You'll support a varied portfolio of businesses with their day-to-day finance functions - from management accounts, VAT and month-end reporting through to budgeting, forecasting, systems implementation and process improvement.

Outsourcing Assistant Manager Responsibilities:

• Supporting Outsourcing Managers with the day-to-day management of a varied portfolio of clients.
• Reviewing bookkeeping, VAT returns, management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations prepared by Seniors and Juniors.
• Assisting with month-end close and the preparation and finalisation of management accounts.
• Producing supporting commentary and helping clients understand the story behind their numbers.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cost control activities across client portfolios.
• Monitoring deadlines, SLAs and compliance requirements, identifying and escalating potential issues at an early stage.
• Helping to manage team workflow and capacity to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
• Reviewing the work of junior team members and supporting their training and development.
• Contributing to improvements in processes, standardisation and the use of automation across outsourced finance functions.
• Supporting accounting system implementation, migration and optimisation projects.
• Monitoring WIP, job budgets, recoverability and billing, highlighting variances and potential issues to the Outsourcing Manager.
• Identifying opportunities to improve clients' financial reporting, controls and internal finance processes.
• Building strong relationships with clients and becoming a trusted point of contact for their day-to-day finance requirements.

Outsourcing Assistant Manager Attributes:

• Previous experience within an accountancy practice, outsourced finance team or similar client-facing accounting environment.
• Strong management accounts experience, ideally including month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience reviewing bookkeeping and VAT work prepared by others.
• A good understanding of budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
• Comfortable working with cloud accounting systems and keen to develop knowledge of automation and finance technology.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify issues and suggest practical solutions.
• Confident communicating directly with clients and explaining financial information clearly.
• Previous experience reviewing or supporting more junior members of a team would be advantageous.
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified or working towards qualification would be beneficial, although relevant experience will also be considered.
• An interest in developing beyond traditional compliance work into a more commercial and advisory-focused role.
