Job summary

JDS Tuition Services in Cambridge is seeking an enthusiastic tutor to deliver one-to-one tuition for students aged 4–25 with SEN and SEMH needs. You will tailor lessons, monitor progress, and collaborate with parents and other professionals.

The role offers up to £30 per hour, Monday to Friday, about 6 hours per day, with DBS enhanced disclosure expected, and opportunities for professional development and career progression.

Qualifications

• PGCE or QTS or significant teaching/tutoring experience.
• Experience supporting SEN and SEMH including ASD and ADHD.
• Knowledge of PECS is desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging one-to-one tuition tailored to each student’s learning style.
• Develop and implement personalised learning plans with parents, carers and other professionals.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet SEN/SEMH needs.
• Provide emotional and pastoral support in a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Monitor progress and maintain accurate records; adapt lessons as required.
• Collaborate with schools, parents, carers and external professionals for holistic education.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, one-to-one tuition tailored to each student’s individual learning style.
• Develop and implement personalised learning plans in collaboration with parents, carers and other professionals.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet a range of SEN and SEMH needs.
• Provide emotional and pastoral support, creating a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining accurate records and adapting lessons where required.
• Work collaboratively with schools, parents, carers and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s education.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance your knowledge and practice.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education), QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or significant experience in a similar tutoring or teaching role.
• Proven experience supporting students with SEN and SEMH, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
• Knowledge and experience of using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, empathetic and flexible approach.
• The ability to work independently and adapt to the individual needs of each student.
• A genuine passion for helping children and young people reach their full potential.
