Job summary

Cover People are recruiting a qualified Level 2 SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the Outreach Team of a secondary SEMH school in Salford. You ll work with young people who may need additional support with behaviour, engagement, confidence and accessing education.

NB. Driver required for this role. You ll provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils access learning and build resilience in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• L2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
• Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or additional needs.
• Resilient, patient and calm when dealing with difficult situations.
• Confident building strong relationships with secondary-aged pupils.
• A positive and consistent approach to behaviour support.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
• Flexible, proactive and willing to get involved wherever support is needed.
• A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and make progress.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
• Work as part of the school s Outreach Team to support pupils both within and beyond the main classroom environment.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people and encourage engagement with education.
• Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour, remaining calm, patient and consistent.
• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation and independence.
• Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement and reduce barriers to learning.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider Outreach Team to support pupils needs.
• Adapt your approach to suit individual pupils and their circumstances.
