Job description

Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of Pivot

Do you believe in the transformative power of education?

Join our mission to inspire and empower young people, making a lasting impact on their lives.

At Pivot we believe learners deserve better. We are a specialist independent provision with sites in Kirklees, Wakefield, Bradford and Leeds. In our academies we teach and support learners from Key Stages 1 - 5 who have been excluded from school or those with an EHCP who require a specialist placement. Every day our teams do incredible work, making a huge difference to the lives of complex and challenging learners.

We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Outreach Mentor to join our Pivot Outreach Programme (POP) provision in Kirklees.

POP is a growing provision designed to support learners with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs who may have become disengaged from education or experienced extended periods out of school. Through a combination of academic, pastoral and community-based learning experiences, we help learners rebuild confidence, overcome barriers to learning and make positive steps towards re-engaging with education.

As an Outreach Mentor, you will work closely with individual learners to identify and address the barriers affecting their attendance, engagement and progress. You will build positive professional relationships and deliver tailored interventions and community-based activities that support learners' social, emotional and personal development. This may include supporting learners to access local community facilities, enrichment opportunities and educational appointments, where these activities contribute to agreed outcomes and help develop the skills, confidence and motivation needed to engage with learning.

Working collaboratively with teaching staff, families and external professionals, you will contribute to the planning and delivery of personalised support strategies. You will play a key role in helping learners develop independence, improve their emotional wellbeing, strengthen their social skills and successfully access educational opportunities. Experience of working with learners with SEMH needs is essential. Candidates must also hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as the role requires regular travel to support learners in a range of community and educational settings.

Working at Pivot will give you a real chance to change the lives of our learners and we truly believe you will find working here a rewarding experience

We offer:
  • A supportive and forward-thinking school culture
  • Ongoing professional development and support for relevant qualifications
  • Focus on wellbeing for all & access to employee assistance programmes
  • Flexible working arrangements and early finish Fridays
  • Further additional benefits, including blue light card entitlement, eye-test reimbursement, financial wellbeing service, work mobile phone and death in service benefit

We are committed to safeguarding our young people and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service check and appropriate referencing.

During the shortlisting process, Pivot will carry out an online search on shortlisted candidates as part of its due diligence.
