Job summary

St Bede's and St Joseph's Catholic College in Bradford is seeking an Outdoor Beacon 3-Learning Support Assistant to deliver engaging outdoor activities and support students with SEND, SEMH and EAL.

You will work with the Oscar Romero Centre, plan and run activities including expedition training, camping, bushcraft, climbing and archery, and assist with the Duke of Edinburgh Award. A positive, patient approach is essential.

Qualifications

• An NQF Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
• Evidence of further education, training or development, ideally to Level 3.
• Good IT skills and a willingness to complete First Aid training.
• A positive, approachable manner, strong work ethic and good sense of humour.
• Stamina, patience and resilience to support varied needs.
• Strong administrative and organisational skills with attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication, listening and mentoring skills.
• Flexible, collaborative approach with integrity and adaptability.
• Commitment to inclusion, wellbeing and safeguarding.

Responsibilities

• Planning and delivering activities that encourage participation, inclusion and independence.
• Supporting teachers delivering outdoor education to larger groups.
• Mentoring students, setting positive expectations and supporting personal goals.
• Monitoring progress, maintaining records and providing feedback to colleagues.
• Preparing and maintaining equipment and a safe, supportive learning environment.
• Promoting positive behaviour in line with college policies.
• Working with SEND, pastoral and safeguarding colleagues, contributing to reports and EHC plan reviews.
• Supervising students during breaks, visits and non-lesson times as required.
• Providing first aid and attending relevant training.
