Job summary

Mill School Bury, part of the Kedleston Group, is seeking an experienced outdoor education lead to develop and deliver adventurous outdoor learning for KS2-4. You will design cross-curricular plans, supervise instructors, and drive safety-first practices while aligning with the school's vision.

The role requires leading planning meetings, budgeting and building partnerships with professionals, with occasional extended hours on expeditions.

Qualifications

  • Attend planning meetings and write short, medium and long term planning and preparation of lessons.
  • Prepare and deliver safe and impactful lessons to pupils across KS2 and KS3 with a group of KS4 options pupils, expecting to be regularly in challenging outdoor environments
  • Enhance pupil learning by designing a cross curricular integration plan for outdoor education
  • Help pupils make progress through a range of National Governing Body qualifications
  • Support staff to instil an LOTC culture within the setting
  • Supervise TAs, HLTAs and other instructors within outdoor education and horticulture and promote a safety-first environment
  • Develop bespoke weekly/daily interventions for allocated pupils utilizing forest schools
  • Lead on gaining quality marks such as eco schools, LOTC quality mark, NICAS centre
  • Lead and develop a safety-first culture and project management skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver safe and impactful lessons to pupils across KS2 and KS3 with a group of KS4 options pupils, expecting to be regularly in challenging outdoor environments
  • Enhance the pupil’s learning by designing a cross curricular integration plan for outdoor education
  • Help pupils make progress through a range of national governing body qualifications
  • To supervise a TAs, HLTAs and other instructors within outdoor education and horticulture and promote a safety-first environment
  • To develop bespoke weekly/daily interventions for allocated pupils utilising skills in forest schools
  • To lead offsite activities and visits including residential trips
  • To participate in the transporting of pupils as a driver and/or escort on educational visits/home visits and trips
  • Write and periodically review Risk Assessments and Operating procedures for adventurous activities
  • Keep up to date and implement current best practice across the group
