Job summary

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated orthoptist to join a team of 10 Orthoptists. You will work with Consultant Ophthalmologists, Orthoptic Clinical Assistant, Optometrists and Ophthalmic Nurses.

The role covers paediatric clinics, ocular motility, neuro-ophthalmology and theatre support including IVT injections. The successful candidate must hold a degree/diploma in Orthoptics and be HCPC registered (or working towards/return to practice).

Qualifications

• Orthoptics degree/diploma required; HCPC registration essential (or working towards/return to practice). Newly qualified orthoptists would be considered at a Band 5.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, diagnose and manage cases referred to the orthoptic department.
• Formulate an ongoing plan of treatment for a wide range of conditions.
• Liaise with ophthalmology and other professionals as appropriate; refer when necessary.
• Dispense medication according to patient group directives/medical exemptions.
• Communicate complex information clearly to patients, relatives and carers.
• Demonstrate commitment to Continuing Professional Development and Clinical Governance.
