Job description

Ornithologist or Ecologist with Ornithology focus - Senior/Managing Consultant

Join ERM, the world's largest pure-play sustainability consultancy, as a Senior or Managing Consultant in Ornithology or Ecology with a focus on Ornithology. We are open to applications from Ornithologists or Ecologists who can provide Ornithology expertise and are interested in diverse tasks within the Renewable Energy sector.

This role involves assessing and mitigating risks to bird species from wind, solar, and battery storage projects, supporting clients in balancing clean energy development with wildlife protection.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and support renewable and energy infrastructure projects in the UK and internationally.
  2. Prepare and review technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulation Appraisals, and Collision Risk Modelling.
  3. Design and coordinate ornithology surveys.
  4. Provide technical advice to project managers, stakeholders, and clients.
  5. Mentor junior team members (potential line management).

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in ecology, zoology, or related field.
  • Relevant experience in a consent-based consultancy role.
  • Experience in project management, report writing, and impact assessments.
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., CIEEM) or willingness to apply.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Protected species survey license (advantageous).

  • Open to part-time/flexible working arrangements.
  • Hybrid working model with some site visits; role is predominantly desk-based.
