Job summary

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust seeks an optometrist to join the Retinal Treatment Clinics in York. The role focuses on AMD, DMO and RVO with an extended clinical optometry remit and collaboration with consultants and nursing staff.

Success requires a BSc in Optometry and GOC registration. Training in AMD/DMO/RVO is provided; OCT interpretation is desirable. The post is 7.5 hours on Tuesdays, permanent, in York.

Qualifications

• BSc Optometry is required and GOC registration is mandatory.
• Practical knowledge of AMD, DMO and RVO with training provided where needed.
• Prior knowledge and experience in OCT interpretation is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide highly specialised advice contributing to diagnosis, management, education and discharge of patients within the RTC & Macular Service.
• Undertake a specialist extended clinical optometry role in diagnosis and management of ARMD, DMO and RVO.
• Operate as an autonomous practitioner, legally and professionally responsible for patient care and accurate records.
• Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping in line with department, legal and national standards.
• Be fully conversant with Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records Act and Trust policies regarding confidential data.
• Liaise with Consultant Ophthalmologists & all Optometric team members and work within a multi-disciplinary team of Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, Nurses, clerks, etc.
• Undertake any other duties to fulfil the post and meet service needs as agreed with Line Manager.
• Contribute to professional development, clinical performance audits and CET activities as required by the GOC.
