Job summary

Archangel Lightworks Ltd is hiring an Optical Engineer to design laser communications subsystems, from requirements through integration and field testing. The role involves close collaboration with the Product Technical Lead and optical engineering team.

You will define requirements, model performance, and lead breadboard tests, with hands-on experience in photonic components and high-power lasers. Oxford-based with potential home-working arrangements and travel.

Qualifications

• Experience defining requirements on optical systems, modelling and trade studies informs design choices.
• Hands-on experience with photonic components including lasers, detectors, modulators, fibre/free-space optics.

Responsibilities

• Design laser communication terminal optical/photonic subsystems for extreme environments.
• Define requirements and perform trades studies to balance performance and cost.
• Model optical performance, perform tolerancing and optimisation.
• Conduct breadboard testing to validate modelled data.
• Assemble, integrate and test subsystems.
• Support system-level testing and trials.
• Provide technical leadership for subsystem development.
